Listen Somewhat Awkward

from Hello Columbus by David E. Williams

/
  • Compact Disc (CD) + Digital Album

Although released in 1999...It's 1492 all over again, as savage white noise collides with a delicate string quartet and Williams sings merrily of slaughter, Faustian hegemony and
the drying socks of failed contemporary artists. As Deleuze said of Sacher-Masoch, Williams once again demonstrates "a peculiar way of 'desexualizing' love while at the same time sexualizing the entire history of humanity."

3-song CD EP that also features "Not a Gear at All" and "Listen Somewhat Awkward." Enigmatic and sometimes harsh electronics weave dramatically through an ensemble of Jerome Deppe on guitar, Kenneth Brune on saxophone, Michael Scott on drums and The Academy Quartet on strings.

Commercially, this CD was an attempt to graft Williams' songwriting style onto the aggressive elecronic, pseudo-industrial style of artists popular at the time (Marilyn, NIN, Rammstein). In essence, to become more popular by being less "pop."
